Blessing Ceremony at Stewart Indian School
July 11, 2018 @ 9:30 am
The blessing ceremony will be conducted by spiritual leaders from the Paiute, Washoe, and Western Shoshone tribes. These are the first three Great Basin tribes whose children were sent to attend Stewart Indian School when it opened in 1890 as a government-run boarding school. In addition we want to honor the Stewart alumni and thank Governor Brian Sandoval and the Nevada Legislators for funding our renovation project and helping us to establish this new museum. We will have prayers, speakers, light refreshments, and tours of the Stewart campus. We also will be reviewing design schematics for the new exhibit we are developing with an exhibit team composed of Gallagher and Associates Exhibit Designers, our consultants: researcher Samantha Williams, artists Ben Aleck and Melissa Melero-Moose, and our Stewart Cultural Advisory Committee that includes Stewart alumni and relatives of alumni.
